Vincent Alfano of Rancho Santa Fe, CA passed away on
September 4, 2012 at Belmont Village in Cardiff by the Sea after a long and
painful fight for life.
Vince was born on June 3, 1934 in Yonkers, New York to
Vincent Alfano, Sr. and his wife Jennie who came to the United States in the
early 20th Century from Naples, Italy. Vince was proud of his Italian Heritage and
of being a First Generation American.
He served in the U.S. Army Developing and Designing
high-speed temperature and pressure recording systems at Aberdeen Proving
Grounds, in Aberdeen, Maryland.
Vince moved to San Diego in 1966 and started Alfano
Temporary Personnel for Contract Engineering; he successfully owned and
operated his company in Sorrento Valley until 2007.
When asked recently what one of the most memorable times in
his life was he promptly said “the day I got my Pilots License.” He enjoyed flying his small lane in the late
60’s and early 70’s.
Vince particularly enjoyed traveling with his wife Rose
Mary. They traveled extensively,
visiting six of the seven continents, and traveling to Italy and France
numerous times, including a seven week train trip through Russia, Siberia,
Mongolia and China in the late 70’s with daughter Melanie.
Vince will be lovingly remembered by his friends and family
as a kind, generous, thoughtful and brilliant person. Vince was predeceased by his parents, and
sisters Rose, Ann, and Gloria. He leaves
behind his wife Rose Mary, step-daughter Melanie (Peter), and Grandson Trevor,
Brother-in-Law Charles Serbian (Carolyn) and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service and Celebration of Vince’s Life will be
announced at a later date.
